'The Hobbit' Begins Filming In New Zealand

Director Peter Jackson posted a some photos of himself on the set of 'The Hobbit' as evidence that filming has begun. The movie is a prequel to both the 'Lord of the Rings' movies which Peter Jackson also directed.

Filming of the film was put on hold last year due to Director Peter Jackson being treated for a perforated ulcer.

For those who are not familiar with the book, The Hobbit follows “the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug.  Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild.  Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.”

Ian McKellen will return to his role as Galdalf the Grey and British actro Martin Freeman will star as Bilbo Baggins. Also reprising her role in 'The Lord of the Rings' will be the beautiful Cate Blanchet as Galadriel, Andy Serkis as Gollum and Elijah Wood as Frodo. The movie is set to be released in 2012.

My husband has read all of these books and is really excited about the movies, lets hope Peter Jackson doesn't let down the hard core fans with his interpretation. However, based on these photos, I think we're all going to be pleased with it.
